What are the diffences between black bears and brown bears?
Alot of people may assume they are alike because they are just "bears" but there are alot of things bears dont have in common. It's important to know which species is which. So I will tell you the three major differences between black bears and brown bears.
Location: There's a big difference between black bears and brown bears within there location. American black bears are the most common bears in North America. They can be found anywhere from forested areas to the beach to the alpine zone.Just because they are called black bears doesn't necesarly mean they are one hundred percent black.There color range depends on their on their location and the individual. Brown bears known as grizzly bears lives in parts of Russia, Central Asia, China, Canada, the United States, Scandinavia and the Carpathian region, especially Romania, Anatolia and the Caucasus. The brown bear is recognized as a national and state animal in several European countries. Both types of bears are found throughout forested areas in Alaska, though generally not in the same places
Size: They both have a major difference between there characteristics such as size and weight. Male black bears can weigh up to 800 pounds in the fall, and female grizzly bears on Alberta’s Eastern Slopes can weigh as little as 250 pounds in the spring. Another difference are the size of the shoulders, the profile of the face and the length of the claws. The grizzly bear has a pronounced shoulder hump, which the black bear lacks. It also has a concave or “dished” facial profile, smaller ears and much larger claws than the black bear. Black bears have a flatter, “Roman-nose” profile, larger ears, no visible shoulder hump and smaller claws.
Behavior: Black bears are known to be more aggressive then brown bears and thats semi true because they tend to attack people more then brown bears. The majority of attacks tend to occur when black bears are encountered suddenly, and in close quarters. Because of this, black bears are generally considered more dangerous than sympatric brown bears, which live in more open spaces and are thus less likely to be surprised by approaching humans. Black bears are solitary by nature, except when in family groups of mothers and cubs or in pairs during the mating season. Bears may congregate in areas of high food density, such as oak stands, berry patches, or farm fields. Brown bears they like to be left alone. They will only come into contact with each other by chance, for mating, or when they take care of their young in case of females.

For black bears "Individual coat colors can range from white, blonde, cinnamon, light brown or dark chocolate brown to jet black, with many intermediate variations existing." How much does a 1 year old black bear weigh? "Black bear mothers that weigh 175 to 500 pounds produce cubs that weigh less than a pound each in January. By the time the families leave their dens in April, the cubs weigh 4 to 10 pounds, which is about the expected birth weight for an animal of bear size." Are bears intelligent? "Considered by many wildlife biologists to be one of the most intelligent land animals of North America, bears possess the largest and most convoluted brains relative to their size of any land mammal. In the animal kingdom, their intelligence compares with that of higher primates." What are bears known for? "Grizzly bears have a better sense of smell than a hound dog and can detect food from miles away. Grizzly bears are omnivores, and their diet can vary widely. They may eat seeds, berries, roots, grasses, fungi, deer, elk, fish, dead animals and insects."
